I believe this has been mentioned a while back, but thought I'd ask again who has gotten small brown spots on their skin after sun exposure? I've been on Plaquenil about 2 months, and it has helped my knee/back pain, which is wonderful! I also had read that th If you are taking Plaquenil to treat an inflammatory condition or malaria, you should be aware of the side effects that may occur to your eyes and vision. Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is in a class of drugs called disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs, which are used to decrease inflammation, pain and joint damage.

For example, it may be combined with an antibiotic to treat chronic Q-fever, which humans usually catch from farm animals or raw milk. Plaquenil is used to treat other types of infections too.

I've been on Plaquenil since last August. In the past I never had dark circles under my eyes, but I did have a few of those light brown 'sun spots' on my cheeks. Several mechanisms may be involved in the drug-induced changes of pigmentation of the skin. Certain heavy metals, such as iron, silver, and gold, may be deposited in the dermis following damage to dermal vessels. If deposited in sufficient quantities a distinctive change in skin colour may be seen without any significant increase in melanin.
