Oct 04, 2014 Although Bactrim is a very effective drug, it can also be very dangerous, with possibly fatal reactions. Most doctors don't know this. When using Bactrim for treating Lyme, it can be extremely difficult to tell the difference between a herx reaction and a potentially life-threatening adverse drug reaction. What is the best antibiotic to pair with Rifampin for Bartonella? My doctor will not put me on Bactrim slight MTHFR gene mutation and I have been on Rifampin 300mg for about 6 weeks was on 150mg for 6 weeks before that. I am looking for personal experience here, not what some famous doctor "claims" is the best antibiotic protocol.

Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Take Biaxin XL for the full prescribed length of time.

  7. Our LLMD Rx rifampin/biaxin which has been working wonders for pain and motor/vocal ticcing. We tried switching to biaxin/plaquenil after 3 months, but all the bartonella symptoms had reappeared after another 3 months. Back to biaxin/rifampin and in 3 weeks all symptoms have resolved again. Rifampin seems to be the key for us.

    • Antibiotics for Babesia, Bartonella, Ehrlichia.

According to Dr. Marty Ross, Babesia treatment requires four to five months – one month longer than the average length of time a red blood cells lives after it is made by the bone marrow. And similarly to his Bartonella treatment he has three tiers of treatment, each with varying success. Horowitz advises 9 months to a year of treatment. I read that Dr. H uses Bactrim Ds, Biaxin or zithro and mepron when a patient is infected with babs, bartonella and borellia. I used roxithromycin for a short period of time with Bactrim Ds and did not notice much difference between it and zithro or biaxin. But I have read it is the only macrolide that crosses the blood brain barrier. My husband and I have been on biaxin, bactrim and rifampin for 3+ months with only some change. These antibiotics are to help with lyme and kill off the bartonella infection. Our doctor wasn't very happy with our progress so we were switched to ceftin for the lyme and levoquin for the bartonella on Aug. 5th. Hopefully this works.

Methotrexate may be considered for the treatment of psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis if other treatments have failed. Side effects can be severe and potentially fatal so a full assessment of the risks versus benefits is required before methotrexate is prescribed.
