    Plaquenil 6 months

I developed congestive heart failure and was taken off all RA meds except prednisone for a year. For years, I have been complaining to any of my doctors, who would listen, about the dizziness. I went back to my rheumatologist and he prescribed plaquenil again. In the beginning ( The first year or two) It really helped, with my symptoms, with lupus. This past two years, the dizziness has now, turned in to vertigo.

Renal clearance in rheumatoid arthritis RA patients taking Plaquenil for at least six months seemed to be similar to that of the single dose studies in volunteers, suggesting that no change occurs with chronic dosing. In some cases, higher doses can be used. It is recommended one tablet twice daily if taking more than one tablet. It is recommended to be taken with food. Symptoms can start to improve in one to two months, but it may take up to six months before the full benefits of this medication are experienced. I don't know if anyone can help as this isn't technically lupus related. I've been on plaquenil for 6 months for suspected Sjogren's syndrome I don't have antibodies for Sjorgren's or Lupus but I do have Hashimoto's and have all the symptoms for Sjorgren's so the rheumatologist suggested a trial of plaquenil.

Now, that I have read this site, explanation of plaquenil, I think the mystery is solved. After taking it for 6 weeks, I had shortness of breath so I stopped taking it. Again, I have been trying to find out , what have been causing the vertigo.

Plaquenil is a slow-acting drug, meaning that it can take up to 6 months to experience the full benefits of this medication, but it is possible for symptoms to improve in as few as 1 or 2 months. Plaquenil and other antimalarials are the key to controlling lupus long-term, and some lupus patients may be on Plaquenil for the rest of their lives. After a month my severe muscle pains went down from an average of 15 incidents per month, to 6 per month, and after a few more months, to just 2-3 per month. I had never gone through even one month of such drastically reduced muscle pain in the 4 years since it started. I love plaquenil too and just hit the sixth month mark 400mg a day. It took about 3 months for me to notice anything, but seems to get better and better the longer I'm on it. Still getting the flares, but they don't seem to be as severe as they were now.
