Saturday was a week since I stopped taking Plaquenil, aka Hydroxychloroquine, per my doctor's instructions, and I think I am going through some form of withdrawal. I took the drug as a treatment for sarcoidosis and one of the side effects is a reduction in white blood cells, which is what has happened to me. If you search "plaquenil" on the site you'll find lots of information pertaining to lupus. Many of us here take plaquenil. I think it's the first medication prescribed after being diagnosed. Yearly eye exams/scans are important while on this medication. I have not had any side effects from taking it, but have only been on it about a year. Plaquenil is effective for Lupus patients, as well as people with UCTD described to me by a rheumatologist as "Lupus-like" or "Lupus-lite" or "mild Lupus". So it's very possible to be on Plaquenil without having a formal Lupus diagnosis. To get a Lupus diganosis you need to have 4 or more of 11 Lupus criteria, within a 5 year period.
