What Is Plaquenil? Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial medication used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites, which enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Plaquenil is also used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. Plaquenil is available in generic form. Within a week most of them said that their symptoms came back with a vengence. for those who need to go off plaquenil, be careful about just going off it cold turkey. Are there other risks from long term plaquenil use? I have very mild RA and the plaquenil has kept symptoms in check. I have been off the drug two times and RA symptoms come on after about 3-4 weeks. I don't want to go to the next level of treatment as I am doing well on plaquenil and Celebrex. Thanks, XXXXXXX [email protected]
