    Azathioprine and plaquenil

There are no clear guidelines that recommend starting with one of these over the others -- and it's hit-and-miss which one will work best for any individual patient. The Dr knows exactly how your individual manifestation of the disease is presenting, what has already been tried, how you reacted to it... She choose Imuran over Methotrexate because I enjoy red wine on the weekends. So my Dr moved on to Cellcept, which was a miracle medication for me.

May 07, 2019 Imuran azathioprine is a medication originally used to prevent rejection of transplanted organs. It is commonly used to treat the more serious features of lupus by suppressing the immune system. Azathioprine ImuranĀ® has some activity in rheumatoid arthritis but may take 8-12 weeks to see an effect. It is a purine analog that can cause bone marrow suppression and lowering of blood cell counts white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets particularly in patients with renal insufficiency or when used concomitantly with allopurinol or ACE inhibitors. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis RA, an inflammatory arthritis that can destroy joint structures, are often on multiple medications to control disease activity. These medications may have significant toxicities and side effects.

Gram My doctor put me on 5 mg prednisone for a month while he did additional testing to confirm the lupus. All of this information goes into how s/he chooses the next course of action. I'm pondering if its just best to forget about the vino and try Methotrexate first.

Plaqunil rash - I am interested to see if anyone here has gotten a rash from Plaquenil after being on it for several months. I have been getting these horrible rashes and they are not related to sun exposure. I am starting to wonder if they are related to Plaquenil. My doctor now wants me to start on Chloroquine instead of plaquenil.
